Some like it hot

Our Chilli Festival is now on - we've got Basket of Fire, Scotch Bonnet, Krakatoa, Trinidad Moruga Scorpion (reputed to be the hottest chilli around), the fantastically rainbow-coloured Twilight, and more, including ‘turbo-charged’ grafted varieties which are resilient to pests and diseases and abundant.

Our top tips for growing chillies:

  • Plant in pots or in the ground where they will get maximum sun.
  • Feed with a general purpose liquid feed every couple of weeks.
  • You can pick some of the fruit before it fully ripens to encourage more.
  • But if you wait for it to fully ripen you’ll get the full force of the chilli! Fully ripe chillies are best for drying.
  • If grown in pots chillies can be over-wintered indoors – they also make great ornamental plants!
  • More sun + just enough water = hotter chillies!
